NEW HOCHUL AD HIGHLIGHTS JANE CORWIN’S FALSE ATTACKS

Posted by Fabien Levy Add Comments

Corwin attack ad called “bogus”

ERIE COUNTY – Kathy Hochul, candidate for New York’s 26th Congressional District, today released a new television advertisement entitled “Look For Yourself.”

The 30 second ad speaks to the false attacks Jane Corwin has made about Kathy Hochul’s plan to preserve and protect Social Security and Medicare.

“In a desperate attempt to distract voters, Jane Corwin has created a false attack on Kathy Hochul that the Buffalo News has called an ‘attempt to deflect attention from her support’ of the Republican budget that would decimate Medicare, while giving massive tax breaks to multi-millionaires and billionaires,” said Fabien Levy, Director of Communications for Kathy Hochul for Congress.

“Independent sources have said ‘don’t believe’ Jane Corwin’s ad and called it ‘bogus.’

“The Buffalo News agrees, Kathy Hochul has the right approach to fixing and protecting Medicare for future beneficiaries and that ‘she understands health care for seniors to be an appropriate federal issue, while Corwin does not,’” Levy continued.

The ad is available for viewing at: http://www.kathyhochul.com/media/video.

A copy of the script is attached.

JANE CORWIN MISLEADS VOTERS ABOUT KATHY HOCHUL

Posted by Fabien Levy Add Comments

The following is a statement from Fabien Levy, Director of Communications for Kathy Hochul for Congress:

“Jane Corwin’s desperation has never been more evident than it is today.

“In an effort to distract voters from her support for the Republican-endorsed Ryan budget that the Associated Press has said ‘would cut billions of dollars from Medicare and recast it as a voucher program,’ while at the same time giving massive tax breaks to multi-millionaires and billionaires, Assemblymember Corwin has distorted Kathy Hochul’s plan to protect Medicare and Social Security.

“The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle says Kathy ‘Hochul strongly opposes GOP plans to replace Medicare with vouchers for private insurance.’ Meanwhile Jane ‘Corwin remains a staunch supporter of the GOP plan, though some Republican leaders are wavering. It’s also unsettling that this could be a sign that Corwin is a strict GOP partisan.’

“And the Buffalo News has said Jane Corwin ‘supports the Republican proposal for Medicare, which would turn it into a voucher system.’ The paper agrees that Kathy Hochul has the right approach to fixing and protecting Medicare for future beneficiaries and that “she understands health care for seniors to be an appropriate federal issue, while Corwin does not.’”

“Kathy Hochul is the only candidate in this race to be endorsed by the National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare, a non-partisan, multi-million member organization that fights to ensure the survival of Social Security and Medicare.”

UNITED STATES SENATOR CHARLES SCHUMER ENDORSES KATHY HOCHUL FOR CONGRESS

Posted by Fabien Levy Add Comments

ERIE COUNTY – Kathy Hochul today received the endorsement of United States Senator Charles Schumer in her race for New York’s 26th Congressional District.

New York’s senior Senator accredited the endorsement to Hochul’s strong ties to Western New York, her plan to help small businesses create jobs for hard-working, Western New York families, and her fight to protect Medicare.

“I’m for Kathy Hochul for three reasons,” said Senator Schumer. “First, there’s no one who will be a stronger fighter for Western New York than Kathy. It’s in her bones, she’s shown it at the local level and she’ll bring that same approach to the national level. Second, she understands we have to cut the deficit but knows that we have to grow jobs in Western New York at the same time. Kathy will bring a balanced approach by cutting waste where we must, but not cutting aid to families to help them send their kids to college, or funding for cancer research, which the Ryan budget that her opponent supports would do. And finally, perhaps most importantly, this race has become a national referendum on Medicare. Kathy Hochul wants to preserve the program, but her opponent supports the Ryan plan to kill Medicare, which would place a huge burden on seniors. Kathy Hochul is a true fighter for the middle class, and I know she has what it takes to stand up for Western New York in Congress.”

“The support of Senator Schumer means so much to me,” said Hochul. “I am deeply honored to have his support, as well as the support of so many other Members of Congress. Once elected, I look forward to working with Senator Schumer, Senator Gillibrand and the rest of New York’s congressional delegation, in protecting Medicare and helping small businesses create jobs for hard-working, Western New York families.”

JANE CORWIN PLEADS FOR HELP FROM WASHINGTON INSIDERS WHO WANT TO DECIMATE MEDICARE

Posted by Fabien Levy Add Comments

The following is a statement from Fabien Levy, Director of Communications for Kathy Hochul for Congress:

“Last night, Representative Paul Ryan sent out a fundraising plea in support of Jane Corwin and her endorsement of the Republican-endorsed budget that would decimate Medicare.

“This just shows how out of touch Assemblymember Corwin is with the people of the 26th District. Voters are undoubtedly rejecting her support of a budget that would throw our seniors under the bus, while giving massive tax breaks to the multi-millionaires and billionaires, yet she and Congressman Ryan continue to push it down our throats.

“Jane Corwin and the Republicans in Washington are out of touch with the voters of this district, including the thousands of Republicans. And on May 24th, voters will not only reject Jane Corwin’s plan to decimate Medicare, but they will reject her.”

HOCHUL RAISES NEARLY $220,000 IN PRE-SPECIAL FILING, AN ADDITIONAL $240,000 IN THE LAST WEEK

Posted by Fabien Levy Add Comments

ERIE COUNTY – Kathy Hochul, candidate for New York’s 26th Congressional District, has reported raising more than $220,000 in her Pre-Special filing, more than doubling that number with $240,000 since May 5.

In the report filed with the Federal Elections Commission yesterday, Hochul showed that more than 90% of donors came from within New York State. Since April 1, Hochul has had more than 6,000 donors.

The campaign has now raised more than $750,000, making it by far the most grassroots oriented campaign, with 96% of donors giving at the $250 level or below.

“The outpouring of support for Kathy Hochul’s campaign shows that our message is resonating with voters here in the district,” said Fabien Levy, Communications Director for Kathy Hochul for Congress. “To date, we have nearly outraised our nearest competitor by two times, proving while other candidates may be willing to spend their personal fortunes to buy this seat, Kathy Hochul will rely on the support of individuals to help her cross the finish line. Voters in the 26th District are speaking up and the message is clear – they want Kathy Hochul in Congress.”

FAA OPPOSES REPUBLICAN BACKED AMENDMENT THAT ENDANGERS AIRLINE PASSENGERS AND INSULTS FLIGHT 3407 FAMILIES

Hochul again calls on Corwin to rescind fundraising invitation to Speaker Boehner

ERIE COUNTY – Kathy Hochul, candidate for New York’s 26th Congressional District, today reiterated her opposition to the Shuster amendment after the Federal Aviation Administration yesterday announced their opposition to the Republican-backed amendment that would unravel two years of work to reform the airline industry.

In a statement yesterday, the FAA said they had “concerns” that the Shuster amendment protects “a set of procedural hoops that could have the effect of slowing down rulemaking projects under way and in the future.”

“Every Member of the United States House of Representatives, who voted for the Shuster amendment, is responsible for potentially endangering the lives of airline passengers from across the country,” said Hochul. “If I were in Congress today, I would be fighting, alongside Senators Schumer and Gillibrand and Congressmembers Slaughter and Higgins, for the people of the 26th District and the families of Flight 3407; working tirelessly to ensure major changes to how the airline industry operates are enacted.

“No one from outside this area understands the collective pain we experienced as a community following the crash of Flight 3407, which is why it is disturbing to hear my Republican opponent will not rescind her offer for Speaker John Boehner, the leader of the party that overwhelmingly supported the Shuster amendment, to travel to Western New York and raise thousands of dollars for her campaign.

“The safety of our families and loved ones must be our top priority and we must do anything we can in order to ensure such a tragedy does not happen again.”

The Shuster amendment halts major measures to combat pilot fatigue, increase commercial pilot licensing requirements, improve training practices, establish an electronic pilot records database, and setup new transparencies for regional carriers.

KATHY HOCHUL ENDORSED BY THE NATIONAL COMMITTEE TO PRESERVE SOCIAL SECURITY & MEDICARE

Posted by Fabien Levy Add Comments

Hochul only candidate that would fight to protect Social Security & Medicare

ERIE COUNTY – Kathy Hochul, candidate for New York’s 26th Congressional District, today received the endorsement of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare

Max Richtman, Executive Vice President of the multi-million member organization, credited the endorsement to Hochul’s leadership, vision and determination to fight for America’s working families and seniors.

“The National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare, on behalf of its
millions of members and supporters, enthusiastically endorses Kathy Hochul’s candidacy for the United States House of Representatives,” said Richtman. “Kathy Hochul understands and supports the critical roles that Social Security and Medicare play in the retirement and health security of our nation’s older citizens and their families. We have no doubt she is well-prepared to serve the needs of seniors and will make the preservation of Social Security and Medicare a priority in office.”

“I am truly grateful to the National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare for their support and endorsement,” said Hochul. “With their backing, we will fight the Republican budget that aims to decimate Medicare and any Republican efforts to privatize Social Security. I will stop at nothing to protect the guarantees we’ve made to our seniors over the last 76 years.”

OSAMA BIN LADEN DEAD

Posted by Fabien Levy Add Comments

The following is a statement from Kathy Hochul:

“On September 11, 2001, Osama bin Laden, the world’s most sought-after terrorist, led al Qaeda in carrying out the largest terrorist attack in American history, murdering 2,977 innocent citizens from around the world.

“The subsequent war in Afghanistan has now waged on for nearly a decade and this evening, in a targeted operation in Pakistan, the United States has accomplished their ultimate goal and killed Osama bin Laden. As President Obama said, this is the ‘most significant achievement, to date, in our nation’s effort to defeat al Qaeda.’

“While bin Laden’s death signals a major victory in our fight against the terrorist group, this does not mean the threat of terrorism against the American people, or innocent civilians throughout the world, is any less. We must continue to be vigilant and continue to be cautious against all threats from around the globe.

“I can only now thank the thousands of service men and women who have served our country over the last 10 years and the thousands of families who have sacrificed so much to keep our nation safe.

“I commend President Obama for his decisive leadership and the special forces who carried out this operation for their tireless work.

“While nothing can compensate the thousands who lost their loved ones on that terrible September day, I can only hope that the death of Osama bin Laden can provide a bit of relief to the families who lost so much that morning. Even with this significant closure, we must never forget those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.”

KATHY HOCHUL RECEIVES THE ENDORSEMENT OF NARAL PRO-CHOICE NEW YORK

Posted by Fabien Levy Add Comments

ERIE COUNTY – NARAL Pro-Choice New York today announced the endorsement of Kathy Hochul for New York’s 26th Congressional District.

Andrew Stern, interim Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice New York, called Hochul a pro-choice voice, who will lead the charge for women’s health care.

“Kathy Hochul will be a powerful counterpoint to the opponents of women’s health care who won their seats by claiming to be worried about jobs and the economy and then wasted no time pulling a destructive bait and switch,” said Stern. “Kathy Hochul will stand up to those who would deny women access to critical health care services, while her opponent, Assemblymember Jane Corwin, will stand with them.”

“I am deeply grateful for the support of NARAL Pro-Choice New York,” said Hochul. “Once in Congress, I will fight alongside NARAL Pro-Choice New York to ensure women have access to safe and adequate health services, without any interference from the federal government.”

AFTER MASSIVE WIND STORM, MORE EVIDENT THAN EVER LOCKPORT NEEDS REPRESENTATION

Posted by Fabien Levy Add Comments

ERIE COUNTY – After a massive wind storm hit the City of Lockport today, the city experienced dozens of uprooted trees and snapped power poles, as well as widespread property damage.

“The people of Lockport currently do not have any representation in Congress,” said Kathy Hochul, candidate for New York’s 26th Congressional District. “If I were serving in House of Representatives today, I would be working with local officials to assess the damage and would help bring whatever necessary federal dollars back to the 26th District to help pay for the cleanup effort. The people of this district deserve a Representative who would be quick to respond to such a disaster and work tirelessly to ensure residents have the support they need.”

The Mayor of Lockport issued a ban on any unnecessary travel today after wind speeds were clocked at upwards of 83 mph and approximately 7,000 homes and businesses in Niagara County lost power.

“Storms like this cause businesses to close, roads to be blocked and stop residents of the 26th District from getting to and from work and school,” added Hochul. “We must quickly recuperate from weather events like this so that we minimize the economic impact as much as possible.”
